UML taskforce meet begins at Ministry of Finance

To give a final touch to consensus draft

KATHMANDU: The sixth day meeting of the ruling CPN-UML taskforce formed to resolve the intra-party dispute has started at the Ministry of Finance on Saturday evening.

According to sources, the taskforce meeting started immediately after the Khanal-Nepal faction leaders, who had been to Koteshwor to meet Senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, joined Chairman KP Oli faction at the Ministry of Finance.

The meeting was scheduled for Saturday morning.

Both factions busied themselves the whole day discussing about the final stances and the possible interpretations of the agreement prepared by the task force members.

Prime Minister Oli faction was holding discussions in Singha Durbar while Khanal-Nepal faction was holding discussions in Babar Mahal.

Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Oli has been taking the stand that the signature in favor of Nepali Congress President Deuba should be withdrawn instantly whereas Khanal-Nepal faction is of the view that the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives should be reversed if the signatures are to be withdrawn.

The rift in the party began as UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolved the House of Representatives for the first time last year. The rift widened with Oli dissolving the parliament for the second time two months ago.

Meanwhile, the disgruntled faction led by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal have signed a petition to make opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba the Prime Minister. As many as 23 lawmakers have signed the petition and they have refused to withdraw their signatures as demanded by Oli faction.
