Supporting PM Oli would have been wrong on many fronts: UML leader Nepal

KATHMANDU: Senior leader of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that giving vote of confidence to Prime Minister and party Chairman KP Sharma Oli would not have been appropriate from any point of view.

Issuing a press note Monday evening to further clarify on his faction’s decision of not attending parliament session, in which PM Oli failed floor test, Nepal said supporting PM Oli would have been against ethical politics, democratic principles and constitutional values, among others.

Considering it was the responsibility of every citizen, patriots, republicans, and community to stand against the wrong decisions of PM Oli, he clarified that they decided to abstain from the parliament session Monday.

The statement calls on PM Oli to be responsible towards country, citizens and the party by re-orienting himself, and by respecting the constitution and party statutes. It further asks PM Oli to rectify his decisions and address concerns of the disgruntled faction for party unity.

Leader Nepal also noted that PM Oli’s decision of not resigning after the Supreme Court restored the dissolved House of Representatives took a hit at the party’s reputation and  showed his self-centered attitude.
