Meeting of Nepal-Khanal faction underway at Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the CPN-UML lawmakers close to the Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal faction is underway at the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Singha Durbar.

The “crucial” meeting is discussing the faction’s next move as Prime Minister KP Oli is seeking a vote of confidence in the Federal Parliament this afternoon.

On Sunday, the lawmakers close to the Madhav-Jhalanath faction had in a six-point proposal to party Chairman and Prime Minister Oli given a deadline of 9 am on Monday to mend his ways.

The meeting is also likely to focus on the resignation of as many as 20 lawmakers as the deadline given to the party chair Oli to address the demands of the faction has also elapsed by.

“The party chair has not addressed the six-point demands floated by the Nepal-Khanal faction. The meeting will focus on whether to resign or not. We will move ahead by tendering our resignations,” said lawmaker Bhawani Khapung, who is close to the Nepal-Khanal faction.

A special session of parliament convened by Prime Minister Oli to seek a vote of confidence is being held this afternoon at 1 pm.

Hence, Prime Minister Oli is unlikely to receive a vote of confidence from the disgruntled faction of his own party.
