PM Oli taking a floor test today afternoon

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli is seeking a vote of confidence at the House of Representatives (HoR) today afternoon in a bid to stay in power.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari, on the recommendation of the government, summoned a special session of the Parliament on May 10 to seek a vote of confidence.

Prime Minister Oli requires at least 136 votes in the 275-member HoR to win the confidence motion.

His decision to seek a vote of confidence comes at a time when the country is combatting the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, issuing a statement on Sunday evening, PM Oli warned that some leaders were inclined to end their political careers by resigning en-masse.

Hinting at the proposed mass resignation of leaders of the party’s disgruntled faction led by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, PM Oli said activities such as crossing floors, filing no-confidence motions, and threats of mass resignations were only meant to harm the party.

He also said that history would judge those who have been carrying out such activities. He was of the view that such activities are not just and appropriate in any context.

He stated that the present generation has to take the party ahead by strengthening and unifying it.

Saying that the party would not discriminate against anyone, he has urged all and sundry to work towards strengthening and unifying the UML and communist movement.

Meanwhile, the ruling CPN-UML has issued a whip to all its lawmakers to vote in support of the Prime Minister.
