CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) are separate parties: EC tells Parliament Secretariat

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has sent a letter to the federal parliament secretariat stating that the CPN-UML and the CPN (Maoist Center) are different parties.

However, UML and CPN (Maoist Center) lawmakers will be sitting in the ruling party’s row in the parliament.

Spokesperson of the parliament secretariat Rojnath Pandey said that the lawmakers of both the parties will sit in the same row of the ruling party as the Maoist Center had not withdrawn its support to the government.

As per the decision of the Supreme Court (SC), the Election Commission had decided to separate the CPN-UML and the Maoist Center.

Earlier on Sunday, the SC had annulled the party unification of the CPN-UML and the Maoist Center. With the SC’s decision, these two parties have returned to their erstwhile position.
