KATHMANDU: The Prachanda-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is holding a massive protest rally in a show of strength in the Kathmandu Valley today.

Shouting slogans against the Oli-led government, the rallies have been taken out from different places including Tripureshwor, Kalimati, Naya Baneshwor, Maitighar, Lainchaur, Bag Bazaar and Maitidevi before converging into a huge mass assembly at Bhrikuti Mandap.

Top-notch leaders are addressing the protest rally. According to Bishnu Rijal, the central member of the NCP, Anjana Bishankhe, Amrita Thapa, Bhanu Bhakta Joshi, Mahaphuj Ansari, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Ram Chandra Jha, Santa Kumar Chaudhari, Janardan Sharma, Dev Gurung, Raju Panta, Narayan Kaji Shreshta, Jhala Nath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal and Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda are scheduled to address the mass assembly.

To be chaired by Hit Bahadur Tamang, the program will be run by Lilamani Pokharel while Jeevan Ram Shrestha will welcome the protest assembly.

Senior leader of the faction Jhala Nath Khanal in a meeting held in Peris Danda yesterday said over 300,000 people will participate in the protest rally today. The faction organized a march-past ahead of the protest assembly against House dissolution yesterday.

With the dissolution of the House of Representatives, the ruling NCP has been divided politically. Both the factions have been aggressively staging political programs in a show of power so as to claim legitimacy over the party and the election symbol ‘sun’.

Earlier, the disgruntled faction had staged a protest rally in the capital on January 22 and December 29.
