KATHMANDU: Three more Nepalis abroad have succumbed to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), two people died in the UK and one in Malaysia in the past week.
According to the Health Committee under NRNA, the number of deaths from coronavirus among Nepalis abroad has reached 317.
Health Committee Coordinator Dr. Sanjeev Sapkota said that 53,846 Nepalis living in 50 different countries have contracted infection till Saturday evening. Out of them, 51,116 (93 percent) have recovered so far.
According to the committee, the infection has been seen in more Nepalis in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Japan, South Africa, the UK, India and the UAE in the past week.
Meanwhile, a joint initiative of NRNA and Nepali diplomatic missions abroad has rescued 186,066 Nepalis after the global impact of COVID-19.
According to NRNA Vice President and Coordinator of the Foreign Employment Committee Dr. Badri KC, the association has been actively involved in rescuing, relief, and re-employing the workers in trouble abroad.
KC said more than 9,650 workers have been kept in shelters in different countries and given legal aid, counseling, PCR tests, training, air tickets, and court fines among others.
