Nepal preparing to procure COVID vaccines from India for 20 pc population



KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to buy coronavirus vaccines that will suffice 20 percent of Nepal’s population i.e. six million people.

The government is involved in phase-wise discussions with India for procuring vaccines before vaccines are made available through COVAX facility.

As it is learned that the vaccine through COVAX will be available only in the fourth quarter of 2021, the government is preparing to procure vaccines before that, said Coordinator of the Coronavirus Vaccine Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Shyamraj Uprety.

The COVAX facility also provides vaccinations to 20 percent of the population.

The government, through the Nepali Embassy in Delhi, is in talks to procure AstraZeneca produced by Serum Institute of India and Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech.
