Government to procure 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine for children



KATHMANDU: The government has planned to purchase 10 million doses of vaccine against COVID-19, especially for children.

A meeting of the cabinet on Monday had given permission to the Ministry of Health to procure Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

Both vaccines have been given to children in countries including the United States.

Health Minister Birodh Khatiwada said that 10 million doses of vaccine have already been procured.

He informed that the cabinet meeting has decided to procure the vaccine as it has to be endorsed by the cabinet.

Minister Khatiwada said that the cabinet has decided to purchase 6 million Pfizer vaccines and 4 million modern vaccines.

“The Pfizer and modern vaccines will come soon,” said Minister Khatiwada.

“The vaccines will come as soon as the cabinet decides to bring them,” he added.

The vaccines will be administered to children above 12 years of age.
