Will keep national interest at center with regard to MCC, says Unified Socialist Chair Nepal

KATHMANDU: Chairperson of CPN-Unified Socialist Madhav Kumar Nepal has urged the delegation of US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to make clear the negative comments raised in regard to MCC among Nepalis.

Nepal said so at a meeting with the Vice President of MCC of Compact Operations Fatema Z. Sumar Thursday. On the occasion, former Prime Minister Nepal urged Fatema to further clarify the concerns as issues have been raised about MCC citing it was not in the national interests. He said that his party would take appropriate decision by keeping the issue of national interest at the center.

According to Unified Socialist party’s leader Gangalal Tuladhar, who was present at the meeting, Chair Nepal drew the attention of the MCC delegation to make sure that the MCC support was for the welfare of Nepalis. Nepal said that five political parties of the current power coalition would make a common understanding and needed steps would be taken over the issue.

Leader Tuladhar said that MCC Vice President briefed the leaders about the MCC support extended by the US government and expected positive response. Likewise, Chair Nepal recalled the recommendations for amendment to some points given by the then NCP senior leader Jhalanath Khanal-led taskforce on MCC, leader Tuladhar shared.
