“Why is govt silent and not vocal about MCC?”

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has questioned why the government was staying silent on the issue of U.S. grant project Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

He wondered so at a meeting of the UML Central Committee held on Monday, leader Bishnu Rijal shared on social media Monday.

Stating the government’s common minimum program is nothing more than a web of word games, Oli questioned why the current government is staying mum on issues that it should be vocal about.

“Yesterday, when we were in government, they used to holler about MCC. But the government’s minimum common program is silent on issues it should be vocal about. There is not a word in it of MCC,” Rijal wrote on social media, quoting UML Chair Oli.

Leader Rijal, quoting the UML chair, shared four points made by Oli at the Central €Committee meeting.

1. The government’s common minimum program is nothing but a patterned format. There is silence about what needs to be said. There is not a word in it about MCC.

2. Until we were in government yesterday, they used to shout about MCC. These revolutionaries, who are in the government now, should have been able to say they will turn down MCC.

3. The MCC is in Parliament. The government doesn’t say what it wants to do about MCC. The common program has no mention of the government’s stance on MCC. This government has no vision about what MCC is.

4. Those who signed MCC are now in government and they also held dialogues on MCC. The MCC needs 136 votes to pass, they have 165 votes. No one has said anything to us. Therefore, we are out of the equation.
