UML leader Rayamajhi calls Maoist Center unconstitutional entity

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi has accused the CPN-Maoist Center of being an unconstitutional entity run in a murky way.

Rayamajhi reached the Election Commission (EC) along with other leaders Friday to inquire about the petition challenging the legitimacy of the CPN-Maoist Center.

He said the Maoist Center had not been operating in accordance with the constitution, laws and the Political Parties Act. The party has not had a general convention for 29 years. The last general convention held some 9 years ago was more of a show and general convention has not been held after that. “Hence the party is illegal,” said Rayamajhi.

Rayamajhi, who was a Maoist leader before joining the UML, claimed that an illegal party had taken action against the legitimate people’s representatives. “An illegal party is taking action against the federal and provincial lawmakers, and directly elected people’s representatives. How is this right?” he wondered.
