SC allocates 15 hours each to both parties of HoR dissolution case

KATHMANDU: The Constitutional Bench has allocated 15 hours each to the parties of the case related to the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).

Issuing an order on Wednesday, the Bench urged the lawyers from the writ petitioners’ side to present their arguments in 12 hours and the lawyers of the respondent side to present their reply to the issues within 3 hours.

The Bench notified that the defendants will be given total 15 hours to present their including. The time includes three hours allotted to reply to the points raised by the writ petitioners.

The Bench also ordered the defendants to submit the causes for the dissolution of the House of Representatives within seven days.

The Apex Court has urged both parties to arrange for the number of lawyers and their time accordingly.

Similarly, the court has allocated half an hour each to the members of amicus curiae. It means the amicus curiae will finish their argument within two hours maximum

Thus, provided everything goes as planned by the Bench, the hearing on the HoR dissolution-related writs will be finished in 32 working hours.

After the hearing on Wednesday, the court refused to issue interim order as sought by the writ petitioner.

The court also decided to seek the help of amicus curiae in the case as it had done when Prime Minister KP Oli had dissolved the parliament and the case had reached at the court few months back.
