KATHMANDU: The Madhav-Jhalanath faction of the CPN-UML is holding a meeting of its Standing Committee to discuss the issue of resigning en masse today.
The lawmakers had on Saturday evening decided to give a 24-hour ultimatum to party Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli to correct his moves.
However, the lawmakers are set to resign en masse if PM Oli was not ready to run the party as per the statute.
A leader of the disgruntled faction said that they are holding a meeting today to discuss how they should move forward.
The Prime Minister has convened a special session of the Parliament on Monday for a vote of confidence.
Meanwhile, they have also decided to resign en masse rather than giving continuity to the Prime Minister Oli-led government.
This has frustrated PM Oli’s efforts to get the vote of confidence on May 10 from the Parliament.
Leaders of the Nepal faction made the decision at a six-hour-long meeting in Satdobato last evening on Saturday.
According to a lawmaker close to the Nepal faction, 20 lawmakers have signed a letter of resignation and handed it over to leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Meanwhile, some directly-elected lawmakers are also set to resign, according to him.
