Govt agrees to withdraw all cases filed against cadres: JSP leaders

KATHMANDU: The government has agreed to withdraw all the cases filed against cadres and leaders of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) during the Madhesh movement.

The Prime Minister KP Oli-led government has agreed to fulfill the demands raised by JSP as a pre-condition for the latter’s support to the government.

JSP has been demanding the release of Resham Chaudhary, withdrawal of the cases filed against its cadres and amendment to the Constitution.

JSP has submitted at the Home Ministry a list of 210 of cadres and leaders including Chaudhary serving a jail-term in various prisons across the country.

JSP Central Council Chairman Mahantha Thakur held a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Oli prior to submitting the name-lit at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

“The government has agreed to withdraw all kinds of cases filed against JSP cadres in various courts based on the name-list submitted at the Home Ministry,” said JSP leaders.

The name-list will be sent to the Ministry of Law via the Office of the Attorney General. The Ministry of Law will then submit a proposal at the Office of the Council of Ministers.

The process to withdraw the cases will get completion once the proposal is officially endorsed by the cabinet.

Prime Minister Oli has held various rounds of meetings with JSP for its support to give continuity to the incumbent government.
