EC scraps Oli-Dahal led NCP



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has revoked the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) formerly registered with KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal as its Chairmen.

Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, the EC has informed that the NCP has been revoked as per the Supreme Court certiorari of March 7.

The EC has said that the formal notice of the NCP revocation will soon be provided to erstwhile CPN-UML Chairman Oli and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Dahal.

Likewise, the EC has asked the CPN-UML and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) to propose a new name and election symbol of the party within 15 days if they wanted to merge the two parties again.

A meeting of the EC on Tuesday decided to scrap the Oli-Prachanda led NCP and inform the Chairman of the CPN (UML), KP Oli and the chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), Prachanda about its decision.

Likewise, the EC will also publish a notice regarding the EC’s decision in the Nepal Gazette annulling the previous notice published on June 6, 2018.

The Election Commission has also asked Gopal Kirati, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) and Sandhya Tiwari, Chief of CPN (UML) to come up with new names and election symbols within 15 days.
