KATHMANDU: Four leaders of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) are engaged in discussions to decide a common candidate to contest against Prime Minister and party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
According to NC sources, leaders including senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, Prakash Man Singh, Dr. Sashank Koirala and Dr. Shekhar Koirala are holding “closed-door discussions” to field a single candidate from the Poudel faction.
With President Deuba already in the fray, Poudel faction is under pressure to field a single candidate to compete with Deuba in the party’s 14th general convention starting Friday.
In the meeting held on Tuesday, Singh and Dr. Shekhar Koirala retained their claim for the post for the party head.
After a disagreement in a meeting with other leaders in Chaksibari on Wednesday, only four aspirants were under pressure to reach a conclusion.
