NC Gen Convention: Poudel faction’s meeting underway at Chaksibari

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel faction to come up with a common presidential candidate is underway at Chaksibari.

The meeting is expected to strike a deal on a common candidate for the post of president in the 14th General Convention from the non-establishment side.

The meeting has been attended by the central committee members and presidential candidates, including senior leader Poudel, Dr Shekhar Koirala, Dr. Shashank Koirala, and Prakash Man Singh, among others will decide a common candidate, a leader close to Poudel said.

Earlier today, a meeting of the faction held at Battisputali had remained inconclusive as the leaders did not agree on a common candidate.

Meanwhile, party senior leader Poudel has already agreed not to vie for the party presidency to pave the way towards picking a common candidate from the faction.

The leaders had on Tuesday also met at Chaksibari.

In the upcoming general convention of Nepali Congress, President Sher Bahadur Deuba is making preparations to file his candidacy for the post of president.

Meanwhile, Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi has already announced his candidacy for the post.

Nepali Congress is holding its 14th General Convention from December 10 to 13 in Kathmandu.
