NC Gen Convention: Poudel faction’s meeting concludes

To meet at Chaksibari later today

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel faction to come up with a common presidential candidate has ended.

The meeting, which was expected to strike a deal on a common candidate for the post of president in the 14th General Convention from the non-establishment side, ended deciding to meet again at Chaksibari this afternoon.

The meeting to be attended by the central committee members and presidential candidates, including Dr Shekhar Koirala and Prakash Man Singh, will decide a common candidate, a leader close to Poudel said.

Party senior leader Poudel has agreed not to vie for the party presidency to pave the way towards picking a common candidate from the faction.

Meanwhile, a meeting held at Chaksibari on Tuesday could not fix a candidate from the Poudel faction.

Senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel held separate meetings with presidential aspirants at Chaksibari until Wednesday evening. Following the discussions, General Secretary Shashanka Koirala withdrew his claim for the leadership.

In the upcoming general convention of Nepali Congress, President Sher Bahadur Deuba is making preparations to file his candidacy for the post of president.

Meanwhile, Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi has already announced his candidacy for the post.

Nepali Congress is holding its 14th General Convention from December 10 to 13 in Kathmandu.
