Media should advocate for people’s cause: Province Chief Gurung



POKHARA: Gandaki Province Chief Prithviman Gurung said that media should play strong opposition role and advocate for people’s cause.

Inaugurating the operation of City One TV that has started regular transmission from Pokhara, Province Chief Gurung said democracy would not be strengthened without translating effective role of the press in the favor of the people.

“Media should keep vigilance on the government in regard to its performance and highlight the problems of lower-rung people”, he added.

Gurung also lauded the Nepali media for its continued engagement in establishing people’s rights. He wished that the newly-established Television should gain momentum by safeguarding democracy and human rights.

On the occasion, central vice-chairperson of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Ramesh Bista said it is crucial to run media based on the established principles and values of professionalism. “Media should effectively bring out people’s issues and priorities”, he suggested.

Lawmaker Khagaraj Adhikari highlighted the role of independent media for the freedoms of general public.

Minster for Education, Culture, Science and Technology and Social Development of Gandaki Province Mekhlal Shrestha said the Television would help the country to drive campaign for prosperity.

Former Chairperson of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Ananda Raj Mulmi said the Television should adequately raise the issues associated with industry, business, enterprises and education.

Pawan Kumar Prajapati is the chairperson of the TV.
