KATHMANDU: The meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) has been adjourned till September 10 following main opposition CPN-UML’s obstruction.
Speaker Agni Sapkota had earlier adjourned the session thrice due to obstruction by the UML lawmakers. The session could not be conducted as UML members shouted slogans against Speaker Sapkota for being bias.
However, an ordinance on political parties has been tabled in the House of Representatives. Home Minister Bal Krishna Khad presented the ordinance amidst the UML members shouted slogans in the HoR session today.
They came to the well-shouting slogans as soon as Speaker Sapkota tried to clarify the demands set forth by the UML lawmakers.
Speaking during the first meeting, UML Whip Bishal Bhattarai protested against the issuance of the ordinance to split the political party.
He also criticized the role of Speaker Agni Sapkota. UML has accused the Speaker of splitting the party.
The party obstructed the meeting of the House of Representatives saying that the lawmakers expelled by the UML were allowed to participate in the meeting.
The UML party has been alleging Speaker Sapkota for being bias.
The ordinance brought by the Deuba government had paved the way for the CPN-UML and the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) to split.
Fifteen ordinances, including the ordinance on Political Parties Act, 2002 (Second Amendment) brought by the Deuba government, were supposed to be tabled in today’s parliament meeting.
The government had introduced the ordinance by ending the ninth session of the federal parliament on August 16.
CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Oli have today morning warned to obstruct the parliament session provided the defecting UML lawmakers (currently in Madhav Kumar Nepal’s CPN-Unified Socialist party) attended the session.
Speaking at a parliamentary party meeting held in Singha Durbar, UML Chair Oli had said that the smooth running of the parliament will depend on whether the UML ‘dismissed’ lawmakers will join the parliamentary session or not.
UML had dismissed 14 lawmakers including former PM Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal alleging them of violation of party discipline.
