Land distribution will not solve squatters’ problem: UML leader Gautam



Kathmandu: CPN-UML Vice-Chairman Bamdev Gautam has said that the problem related to the landless people cannot be resolved merely by distributing land.

Speaking at a meeting of the National Assembly on Sunday, Vice-Chairman Gautam said that the problem of squatters would not be solved until scientific land reform is implemented.

“The problems related to the landless people cannot be resolved merely by distribution the land for those who get land sell it and do other work and then become squatters again,” he said, urging, “Long term solution should be sought through scientific land reform.”

Vice President Gautam said that employment should be guaranteed by identifying the problem of landless squatters.

Saying that there are 2.6 million hectares of agricultural land in the country, he said that the share of agricultural land is over 40 million.
