Maoist Center demands cancellation of Constitutional Council meeting

KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Center) has asked the government to cancel the meeting of the Constitutional Council (CC) called for Sunday.

Issuing a press release Saturday, Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ demanded the cancellation of the CC meeting, arguing that it is not in the spirit of the constitution.

Prachanda also noted that parliament Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and main opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba have declared to boycott the meeting.

The Maoist Center is of the view that other CC members should not attend the meeting as two of the CC members have already announced that they would not attend it.

Prime Minister and Chairman of the Constitutional Council (CC) KP Oli on Friday called a meeting of the Constitutional Council (CC) for Sunday.

The Constitutional Council includes the chief justice, speaker, chairperson of the National Assembly, leader of the opposition, and the deputy speaker as its members. The council makes recommendations for the key appointments of officials to various constitutional bodies.
