KATHMANDU: Main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has announced that it is going to boycott the meeting of the Constitutional Council called by Prime Minister KP Oli for Sunday afternoon.
Issuing a press statement on Saturday, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has announced that he would not participate in the meeting of the Constitutional Council as the leader of the main opposition party.
Claiming that the government’s latest amendment of the Constitutional Council Act has paralyzed the spirit of the constitutional body, the main opposition leader Deuba has also urged other members of the council not to attend the meeting.
“I urge all other members of the Constitutional Council not to participate in the meeting as the government’s latest amendment of the Constitutional Council Act through an ordinance is against the spirit of the constitution, against parliamentary values, norms and even democratic practice,” NC President said.
NC chief has also accused the government of undermining the functions of the parliament.
