NC President Deuba calls three party meet

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has called a meeting of three parliamentary parties at 3 pm at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Friday.

It has been understood that the CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) have been summoned to discuss a new power-sharing deal. Moreover, the NC President has extended special invitation to leaders of an internally-divided JSP.

JSP leaders Upendra Yadav, Babu Ram Bhattarai, Mahantha Thakur and Rajendra Mahato will attend the meeting tomorrow, according to a NC source. Earlier, Thakur and Mahato had expressed discontent at NC decision to lead the new government. They had said the decision was NC’s alone, and they were not consulted about it.

Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kama Dahal ‘Prachanda’ along with other leaders will take part in the meeting.

The meeting comes a week after the NC Central Working Committee (CWC) decided to take initiative to form a new government by seeking the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. A NC CWC meeting on April 2 had reached an agreement to this effect.
