Govt formulates strict law to take action against acid attackers: Minister Aryal

KATHMANDU: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Padma Kumari Aryal, has said that the government has formulated a strict law to take action against criminals, destroying the life of girls and women by attacking them with acid.

At a programme “Women’s Contribution to Natural Resources Management” organised by Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal here on Monday on the occasion of 111th International Women’s Day, Minister Aryal mentioned that the government has made arrangement of strict law to take action against those involved in acid attack, saying women of Nepal are still unsafe at a time when the women of the world have already moved forward.

She said, ‘Incidents of destroying the life of our girls and women by attacking with acid and making them ugly have increased. We have no laws related to acid attack. So the government has made arrangement of strict laws to take action against the criminals.

At the same time, the government has made a law to take responsibility for the education and health of the victims.”
Saying the Federation has the big role in women empowerment, Minister Aryal added that the Federation has taught a lesson to others by making 50 per cent participation of women in its structure.

On the occasion, various women were honored for their contribution to community forest protection and nature conservation.
