Transportation to be made technology friendly



KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung has expressed the commitment to make the transport business technology-friendly.

In a discussion with taxi entrepreneurs and drivers at his office in Singha Durbar today, he said the transportation sector has to become technology-friendly in order to run public transport including bus and taxi service effectively.

He also said that there was no other option other than to adopt technology to ensure that passengers are not cheated and there is no unnecessary traffic jam. Also the government spokesperson, Minister Gurung urged the drivers to provide free service to the sick as social service.

On the occasion, the chair of the taxi drivers’ society Purna Lal Moktan called for action against those running transportation services against the transportation act, using private-registered vehicles. Moktan also handed over a 14-point memo to Minister Gurung including among others the need to adjust the public transportation fare and include drivers and transport workers in the social security fund.
