Prachanda says MCC will not pass until U.S. responds to diplomatic note sent by Nepal

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the CPN-Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) will not be ratified if the United States does not responds positively to a diplomatic note sent from the Nepali side.

Addressing the first Central Committee meeting of Maoist youth wing Young Communist League (YCL) Tuesday, Prachanda said the MCC agreement would not be passed until the U.S. government responds to a diplomatic note sent by Nepali side. According to the leader, the diplomatic note contains summary of the questions raised about the agreement and urged the U.S. government to shed light on the issues raised.

“The MCC will not pass until a positive response of the diplomatic note is received from the U.S.,” he said.

The cabinet meeting held last Sunday recommended the President to convene meetings of both the houses of the Federal Parliament. There has been widespread protest over the possibility of the MCC being passed by parliament after the President called the meetings for Wednesday.
