Library should be equipped with modern facilities: CM Pokhrel

GANDAKI: Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokhrel, has said the libraries should be equipped with modern amenities. It is, however, challenging, he viewed.

Speaking at an interaction on ‘Need of Gandaki Provincial Library’ here Monday, CM Pokhrel shared that the province government was mulling the establishment of a modern library.

The library would give complete information on Gandaki Province in addition to the global information and knowledge. On the occasion, he distributed the awards to the winners of province level poetry recitation competition.

Similarly, Minister for Education, Culture, Science and Technology, Mekhlal Shrestha, also stressed that books giving adequate information about the province should be available in the library.

Minister for Law, Media and Provincial Affairs, Bindu Kumar Thapa, viewed that establishment of library was one of the priorities of the government. Its effective management is imperative, he added.

Chairperson of Pokhara Public Library, Prof Dr Bishwo Shrestha, reminded that the awareness of library establishment was restored after 1990’s democratic movement in Nepal. The state should be responsible for running a library.

Moreover, former general secretary of Western Development Forum, Dharma Raj Baral, viewed that the library is the symbol of civilization and identity.
