Health Ministry recommends to postpone all exams in veiw of COVID-19

Nepal records 3,729 new cases, 25 deaths

KATHMANDU: With the surge in coronavirus infections, the Ministry of Health and Population on Friday recommended the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) and the Ministry of Education to immediately stop all examinations, including grade XII.

The Health Ministry, following consultation with experts, has recommended that it is not appropriate to conduct the examination.

The Ministry of Health has suggested that the examination be postponed as the death rate has reached 1.5 percent and the infection rate is also increasing.

Given the examinations of grade XI, CTEVT and that of universities being held, the Ministry has asked to stop all kinds of examinations.

“The infection cases are on the rise. In this context, it does not seem appropriate to conduct the tests,” said Health Secretary Dr. Roshan Pokharel.

Prime Minister Deuba is of the view that it would be appropriate to conduct the examinations only after the situation turns to normal and adolescents below the age of 20 are inoculated, said the Prime Minister’s secretariat.

The Education and Health Committee of the Parliament had also suggested the government to conduct the examination only after vaccinating the students.

Minister of State for Health and Population Umesh Shrestha has made it public through a tweet recommending the Ministry of Education and CCMC to postpone all examinations saying that the coronavirus is on the rise.

With the permission of the CCMC, it was decided to conduct the postponed examination of class XII from August 15. About 400,000 students are preparing for class XII exams.

According to a member of the National Examination Board (NEB), it will take a decision on Saturday. A meeting of the NEB is taking place at 11 am today to take a decision in this regard.

The country recorded a total of 3,729 new cases of coronavirus and altogether 25 infected patients died of the pandemic in the past 24 hours.
