KATHMANDU: Leaders of the Nepal-Khanal faction have been divided after party chair and Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli issued a six point appeal expressing commitments to take the party back to the status of May 16, 2018.

Some leaders of  the disgruntled faction are positive about the six point appeal while the others dubbed it as a mere political gimmick to cling on to power in the party.

Youth leader Yogesh Bhattarai, one of the leaders of the Nepal-Khanal faction, actively working to keep the party united, has welcomed the appeal.

Bhattarai has said that the appeal issued by Prime Minister will help keep the party united.

“This statement has paved the way for giving continuity to the taskforce. It will help the task-force to clarifiy the issues and sort them out,” said  Bhattara, adding, “The task-force should come into the conclusion on the protection of the Constitution, democracy and the party unity.”

Leaders Surendra Panday, Ghana Shyam Bhusal and Gokarna Bista are also positive about the appeal issued by the party chair,  leaders close to them have said.

However, they have not said anything regarding what they will do to the  writ petition filed at the Supreme  Court (SC).

Similarly, other leaders Bedu Ram Bhusal and Ram Kumari Jhankri have described the appeal as a mere political card to turn the tables in his favor.

Leader Bhusal has said party chair Oli has thrown a card with an ill intension to conspire against the leaders of the Nepal-Khanal faction.

He said that Prime Minister Oli should call the meeting of the meeting of May 16, 2018 if really wants to take the party back to the previous status.

Similarly, leader Jhankri of Nepal-Khanal faction has termed the appeal as a conspirary.

Issuing a 6-point appeal for party unity Sunday, Oli said that by doing so, the Central Committee and the Standing Committee structures would comprise those who stand in favor of unity.

He added that party committees as of May 16, 2018, would be functional after unity in the party.

However, there is a catch that those who signed the writ seeking to make opposition party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba the Prime Minister should withdraw their signatures from the petition.

Meanwhile, the UML Chair assured that all the actions taken against leaders will be reversed, and leaders would not be discriminated.
