KATHMANDU:  The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), which formerly was ready to support Prime Minister KP Oli, has finally reached at the verge of deserting him.

According to JSP sources, a meeting between JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav and Rajendra Mahato held in Kathmandu on Friday reiterated the need of keeping the party intact and voting against Oli government.

As a means of ensuring party unity, the JSP leaders formerly seen loyal to PM Oli have decided to take a step back and support the opposition alliance led by Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center and others, the source said.

Influential leaders, including Chairman Mahanta Thakur and Rajendra Mahato, who were in favor of PM Oli, have retreated from their previous position as their move had failed to convince other party leaders.

Thakur is believed to be in crisis after more than 22 lawmakers sided with another Chairman Yadav. What’s more, a close comrade in the party Mahato has also grown hesitant to follow leader Thakur’s path as latter showed reluctance to make Mahato the parliamentary party leader in federal parliament.

Influential leaders Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and Upendra Yadav have been reiterating on the need to topple Oli government alleging it has been paving way towards regression.
