Oli faction to disrupt House session if Prachanda addressed as PP leader

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is set to strongly object to the house proceedings if Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota addressed Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda of Prachanda-Nepal faction as the Parliamentary Party leader in today’s parliament session.

It is learnt that if the Speaker addressed Prachanda as the PP leader bypassing Prime Minister Oli , they will not let the house session run.

“The reinstated House of Representatives (HoR) is commencing from Sunday. The ruling NCP is not divided formally. If the Speaker addressed Pushpa Kamal Dahal bypassing Prime Minister Oli, we will strongly object to it,” said a lawmaker of the Oli faction.

Since the Speaker did not give time to Chief Whip Bishal Bhattarai for the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) despite request, it has hinted that the Speaker might address Prachanda as the PP leader of the party in the house session today.

The Seventh Session of the House of Representatives (HoR), the lower house of the Federal Parliament, is commencing from today after the Supreme Court reinstated it in a landmark verdict on February 23.

The house session is taking place at a time when the dispute within the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is at its peak.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has summoned the first meeting of the Seventh Session of the HoR for 4pm on Sunday. The Head of State has summoned the HoR session on the recommendation of the government as per the constitutional provision.

The Seventh Session of the lower house of the parliament is convening as per the Supreme Court’s order of reinstating the House of Representatives. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had dissolved the HoR on December 20, 2020 and announced a fresh mid-term poll.
