KATHMANDU: At the time when the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has unofficially split, the party’s Vice-Chairman and National Assembly Bamdev Gautam has said that there is no justification for splitting the party.
Addressing the National Assembly on Thursday, he said that Prime Minister KP Oli had not informed him before the dissolution of the Parliament on December 20.
Gautam said he would have resigned if he was prime minister after knowing that a no-confidence motion would be filed against him.
He said, “I would have resigned if I had known about the no-confidence motion. It would have been a matter of lesson in the days to come to move the party’s movement forward.”
He has also revealed that he had been thwarting the attempt to file the motion for nine months despite attending the meetings of the faction criticizing the Prime Minister.
Gautam said that there were dozens of writ petitions in the Supreme Court regarding the dissolution of the House of Representatives and it was taken to the Constitutional Court as it was a constitutional issue.
He argues that calling the move unconstitutional would be an insult to the court as the issue is sub-judice at the apex court.
Gautam said that the two goals of his life were to establish the Republic in Nepal and to unite the communist parties of Nepal, adding that he was happy that both the goals were achieved.
He further said that he did not see any justification for splitting the party now.
