NC leaders of Poudel faction to hold meeting Monday evening

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leaders close to senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel are set to discuss selection of a common presidential candidate from among them in the party’s central general convention.

A meeting is to take place among four leaders aspiring for NC presidency at leader Poudel’s residence in Bohratar Monday evening, said General Secretary Shashank Koirala’s personal secretary Bharat Tiwari.

The NC’s central general convention is slated for December 10-12 in Kathmandu. Still, the Poudel faction has not decided on a common candidate for party presidency.

Senior leader Poudel, General Secretary Koirala, former General Secretary Prakash Man Singh and Central Member Dr. Shekhar Koirala have expressed their aspirations to vie for leadership of the party.

All these leaders have been advocating the selection of a consensus candidate from among them. Yet, they are not ready to abandon their individual aspirations.

Meanwhile, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi are vying for the leadership from the establishment faction of the party.
