Taskforce formed to review minimum wage for working journalists



KATHMANDU: A taskforce has been formed to review the minimum wage for working journalists.

The task force coordinated by Department of Information and Broadcasting Director General Gogan Bahadur Hamal comprises Gopal Tiwari, Ujir Magar, and a representative each from the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and Association of Nepal Media Entrepreneurs as its members. Tiwari is the member of the Minimum Wage Fixation Committee while Magar is the former general secretary of the FNJ.

A meeting of the Committee held on Thursday agreed to form a body to review the minimum wages provision for working journalists, said Committee chair Rajendra Aryal. It is said the minimum wages could not be reviewed since 2075 BS.

The taskforce is assigned to submit its report along with the analysis of causes for the lack of full enforcement of the Working Journalists Act- 1993. The meeting also urged the government to announce a special package for journalists working as front liners during the COVID-19 pandemic.
