One injured as false ceiling at Janakpurdham Airport collapses

KATHMANDU: A person has been injured after the false ceiling of the newly-built Janakpurdham Airport collapsed on him Friday.

A cement board used in false ceiling construction fell over Mohammad Uslen Khan, 39, of Dhanusha, injuring him.

Janakpurdham Airport Chief Kiran Gautam said Khan was a driver and was awaiting a passenger to arrive at the airport when the false ceiling fell over him. The injured is undergoing treatment at Janaki Health Care and Research Center, Gautam added.

Ply and iron bars of the airport, which had completed the construction only about six months ago, have started falling from the roof. The control tower, built at a cost of Rs 420 million with new technology, is also starting to wear out.

The new terminal building of the airport spread over 4,134 square meters is built entirely of steel and cement blocks.
