General Convention in August not possible: NC Gen Sec Dr Koirala

CHITWAN: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala has said it is not possible to hold the party’s 14th General Convention on the scheduled date.

The party has fixed its General Convention on August 30, which he said is not possible.

Talking to journalists in Chitwan on Friday, he said the General Convention on the scheduled time was not possible due to disputes over the party’s active membership and other persisting issues.

He added that the Convention will be held in November-December by sorting out internal issues.

The dispute over the party’s active membership flared up before the preparations for the General Convention.

He was of the view of addressing the party’s membership issue one year before the time fixed for the General Convention.

“We want the General Convention as soon as possible,” he said.

According to him, he has announced his candidacy for the party’s presidency as well. Others two candidates from the party establishment side are aspiring to compete for the post and we will lose the battle if we all contested for the post and discussions are underway to forge a consensus to file a single candidacy.

On a different note, he said he would not join the Council of Ministers and support the government by staying outside.
