Landslides disrupt several roads in Sankhuwasabha

SANKHUWASABHA: The rain-triggered landslide has obstructed the road leading to Bhotkhola in the Sankhuwasabha district for three days.

Traffic movement has come to a grinding halt since the landslide occurred at Henangnama in Makalu Rural Municipality-3 in the district on Saturday.

Efforts were underway to clear off the debris to resume traffic on the road, said engineer Gautam Kumar Shrestha.

If a landslide does not occur again, the road will come into operation from Wednesday onward, said Shrestha.
Meanwhile, Mamling-Piluwa river road section in the Sankhuwasabha district along the Koshi Highway has been blocked by a landslide since Monday.

The landslide that fell from the Chumang slope at Dharmadevi Municipality in the district disrupted the road section, according to the Road Division Office, Sankhuwasabha.

With the monsoon becoming more active, incessant rainfall occurs frequently which leads to swollen rivers, soil erosion, and landslide.

Division chief Gautam Kumar Shrestha said that efforts were underway to operate one-way traffic in the disrupted road section.

Likewise, the road has been blocked by a landslide at the Dobhan section of Makalu Municipality along the Khandbari-Kimathanka road.

The landslide buried a house at Tenshong at Silichong Rural Municipality and left one injured, according to Silichong Rural Municipality-1 ward chairperson Alakshya Kumar Rai.

The locality has been witnessing incessant rainfall for three days, said Rai.
