NC leader Gachchhadar to be arrested in case he fails to show up in court



KATHMANDU: Main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) leader Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar is likely to face an arrest warrant if he fails to turn up in the court by Tuesday.

According to sources, the 30-day deadline given to leader Gachchhadar for appearing before the Special Court (SC) ended on Monday.

The SC is making preparations to arrest former Deputy Prime Minister Gachchhadar, provided he fails to appear before the court by today.

Earlier, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a case against Gachchhadar on February 5, 2020, accusing him of playing provocative role in Lalita Niwas land scam during his stint as the Minister for Physical Planning and Works.

Gachchhadar was initially given a 15-day time limit to appear before the court. As he turned deaf ears to the court’s order, he was summoned to appear before the court within the next 30 days.

CIAA has demanded Rs 96.576 million in fine from him.

Most of the those accused in the Lalita Niwas land scam have already appeared before the court and are released on bail now.
