NC leaders Deuba, Poudel and Shekhar not to run after PM’s post

KATHMANDU: Responding to the offers for Prime Minister made by the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) leaders including President Sher Bahadur Deuba have clarified that the party has not claimed for the post of Prime Minister.

Addressing the 13th general assembly of BP Community Cooperative Hospital in Kathmandu on Saturday, the party President Deuba said that despite the fact that the main opposition leader in the parliament is automatically the candidate for the next Prime Minister, he is not prepared for the post now.

“I have not claimed for the post of PM, but the fact is the main opposition leader in the parliament is regarded as the waiting PM,” Deuba said in the program adding, “NC’s main concern now is to stand united to make the party’s General Convention a success.”

Similarly, NC senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel also opined that more than claiming for the post of PM, the party should facilitate in resolving the impasse in the parliament.

“The communists have failed. All the forces that raised arms against the parliamentary system have failed,” Senior leader Poudel said, “As a responsible party that believes in parliamentary system, we have to help end the deadlock.”

He remarked that NC should not show any temptation for power.

Likewise, another influential leader Shekhar Koirala remarked that NC should lead the government formed to hold elections only.

He suggested acting cautiously as any steps taken prior to NCP’s formal split could harm NC.

“NCP is not divided yet, I am concerned that we might be in difficulty if we make any decision about leading the government before NCP formally splits,” leader Koirala said, “There will be the election after two years, if we get chance for the leadership of the that government that will surely be beneficial to the party.”

Koirala underlined the need to make the young generations more active in the party.

The party should make the strategy to involve the young generation for their leadership in the party.
