KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is issuing a final verdict on the case related to the dispute surrounding the name of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) on Sunday.

A joint bench of Justices Bam Kumar Shrestha and Kumar Regmi, after hearing the case, said it would give the final verdict on March 4.

But, an emergency meeting of the Supreme Court had decided to close all the courts across the county on Wednesday to mourn the death of former Chief Justice (CJ) Surendra Prasad Singh on Thursday.

Former CJ Singh had passed away at the age of 89 on Tuesday.

The then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist-Center) had registered their party’s name as Nepal Communist Party at the Election Commission following their unification.

Prior to it, Nepal Communist Party had been registered under the leadership of Rishi Ram Kattel at the EC.

On November 21, 2018, Kattel had moved the SC against the EC complaining that the similar name was registered against his party’s name.
