Peak demand of electricity recorded on Laxmi Puja reaches 1270 megawatts, 147 megawatts more than last year

48 MW of electricity exported to India during Laxmi Puja peak demand

KATHMANDU: The peak demand of electricity has reached 1270 MW on the day of Lakshmi Puja of this year’s festival.

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) had projected that the peak demand would reach 1500 MW on the day of Laxmi Puja this year.

NEA has recorded a peak demand of 1270 MW at 6 pm on the day of this year’s Laxmi Puja. Last year, the peak demand on Lakshmi Puja was 1123 MW. This year’s peak demand for Laxmi Puja is 147 MW more than last year.

In the past, electricity was being imported to meet the demand of Lakshmi Puja, but now it has started reaching the domestic production level. During this year’s Laxmi Puja peak season, 48 MW of electricity has been exported to India while imports have dropped to zero.

This year, the peak demand of Kathmandu Valley has been recorded at 320.64 MW. Last year, the peak demand in the valley was 296 MW.

The peak demand so far of the current Fiscal Year has been recorded at 1614.8 MW on September 10. The maximum power demand of the system including the export of the same day has been recorded 1758.8.

A team comprising Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal, NEA directors Bishwaprakash Gautam and Kapil Acharya, Managing Director Kulman Ghising, among other officials, reached the load dispatch center in Suchatar on the day of Laxmi Puja and got information about power demand and supply management.

This year, NEA has succeeded in supplying uninterrupted electricity to the entire country on the day of Lakshmi Puja. NEA had urged the consumers to light the lamps safely as there was enough electricity.

NEA had kept the heads of distribution centers, power houses and technical staffs on standby to prevent power outages on the day of Laxmi Puja.
