KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has quashed the vacate petition filed by Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ against the apex court’s interim order that had reinstated elected representatives expelled by the Maoists.

A division bench of Justices Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, Bam Kumar Shrestha and Manoj Kumar Sharma rejected the petitioner’s demand for reversing the interim order.

The Maoist Center had taken action against elected representatives, including mayor, deputy mayor, and local level office bearers, after they joined the CPN-UML following the apex court’s nullification of the Nepal Communist Party that was formed by the merger of UML and Maoists. The elected officials lost their posts after the Maoist Center registered its action with the Election Commission.

Later, the dismissed elected officials were reinstated by the Supreme Court. Maoist Chairman Prachanda had filed a vacate petition against the apex court’s order to reinstate the elected officials.

The court also ordered to inform the 21 people’s representatives, who were defendants in the case, about the court’s decision.
