KATHMANDU: The opposition parties in Lumbini Province have demanded action against Chief Minister Shankar Pokhrel and UML Chief Whip Bhumeshwor Dhakal for holding lawmaker Bimala Khatri hostage for five days.

Earlier, lawmaker Khatri accused CM Pokhrel of holding her hostage at his residence July 31 to August 4.

Issuing a joint statement Thursday after lawmaker Khatri held a press meet in Butwal, the opposition parties condemned the UML and the CM for their action. They also alleged that CM Pokhrel and the UML were in minority in the province and were carrying out apolitical plots to keep their hold on power.

The Maoist Center, Nepali Congress, Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha are in the opposition in Lumbini Province while the UML is the ruling party.
