17 killed as lightning strikes wedding party in Bangladesh



KATHMANDU: At least 17 people have died after being struck by lightning in a wedding party in Bangladesh.

The incident took place in Shibganj of Nawabganj district of Bangladesh when the wedding party was taking place on the bank of a river.

Hundreds of people attended the party. Lightning struck the crowd on the way to the river bank after the weather turned bad and it started raining.

According to Reuters, 17 people were killed and dozens injured in the incident. The bridegroom has also sustained injuries in the accident. The bride was not at the party at the time of the accident.

Hundreds of people are killed every year by lightning strikes in Bangladesh. Earlier in May, 82 people were killed in a single day in different parts of country.
