NC demands legal action against those involved in Chitwan incident

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has said that the mysterious murder of an adolescent girl, Sujita Bhandari, of Rapti Municipality of eastern Chitwan has raised several serious questions.

Not knowing her whereabouts for nine days, no concrete results of investigations even after she informed of the abduction and finally finding her dead body in a forest have put forth pertinent queries.

Issuing a press statement Monday, NC Spokesperson Biswo Prakash Sharma has demanded the government investigate the Sujita case in an intensive and serious manner and book the guilty of the incident at the earliest.

Incidents of violence and killings of women are taking place frequently in different parts of the country, he said, calling for a profound national consultation for discouraging such trends and bringing about social changes.

Meanwhile, in Rapti, the locals blocked the East-West highway from 10:15 in the morning calling for impartial investigation into the incident. The highway was opened for traffic only at 6:00 in the evening, following an agreement between the agitating side and the local administration.
