NA members air mixed views on HoR dissolution

KATHMANDU: National Assembly (NA) members have aired a mixed response on the issue relating to the dissolution of House of Representatives on Monday’s session.

Taking part on the today’s session at the upper house of the parliament, the lawmakers have exposed their mixed arguments on May 22 dissolution of the House of Representatives.

During the special session of the NA, some welcomed the PM Oli’s recommendation and President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s approval for the election.

Ruling CPN-UML’s Devendra Dahal lauded the government decision to go for the fresh polls hailing it as the best measure to safeguard and promote democracy whereas Nepali Congress Lawmaker Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi criticized the move as unconstitutional and against the public expectation that the parliament would complete its tenure.

Rayamajhi also criticized the government for its failure to issue the updated map that includes Kalapani and other areas the parliament unanimously demanded to be included in Nepal’s map.

Accusing of more corruption in the country, he demanded transparency in the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines.

Similarly, CPN-Maoist Center leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha requested not to end the NA session immediately and argued that it should be continued as a venue for protecting democracy and raising people’s voices in the absence of the HoR. As he argued, the constitution did not grant HoR as the prerogative of the Prime Minister.
