Petitioners and defendants finish pleading on HoR dissolution

Selected amicus curiae scheduled to begin at 2:30 pm



KATHMANDU: The hearing on the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) has ended with the petitioners and defendants exhausting 15 hours each provided to present their arguments.

The Constitutional Bench comprised of five senior-most Justices finished hearing pleadings from petitioners, 146 parliamentarians, and defendants, President’s Office and the Prime Minister, Monday afternoon.

Senior advocates Harihar Dahal, Badri Bahadur Karki and Om Shambhu Thapa argued on behalf of the petitioners Monday.

Now the Constitutional Court will hear the opinion of Amicus Curiae. Selected amicus curiae were scheduled to begin at 2:30 pm.

Senior advocates Raghav Lal Vaidya and Usha Malla Pathak have been selected from the Nepal Bar Association and Komal Prakash Ghimire and Prakash Bahadur KC from the Supreme Court Bar Association for amicus curiae, with a total of 2 hours allotted to all of them. The Amicus Curiae will put forth their opinions on the issues impartially in a bid to assist the court in the fair decision-making process.

The five senior-most justices hearing the case are Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana, Justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Dr. Ananda Mohan Bhattarai.
