Prachanda-Nepal faction asks EC the reason for the delay in giving recognition to them

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) of the Prachanda-Nepal faction has asked the Election Commission (EC) in writing what was barring them from giving recognition to the party.

The leaders of the faction on Friday reached the Election Commission office in Kantipath and expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in giving the authenticity to their faction since the faction has completed all procedures by a majority.

The leaders met Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya and discussed the issue.

In response, Thapaliya said that the EC would start discussions on the issue from Sunday, according to Rajendra Pandey, leader of the Prachanda-Nepal faction.

The Prachanda-Nepal faction has ousted Prime Minister KP Oli from the party’s general membership and appointed senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal as its Chairman.

The Election Commission, however, has yet to recognize the faction’s decision.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, the leader of the Oli faction, Mahesh Basnet had reached the Election Commission and said that the lawmakers were in favor of party unity.
